Hip-hop dance refers to street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, and popping which were created in the 1970s and made popular by a few different dance crews in the United States. It was developed by African-Americans in New York City in the late 1970s and it is mostly a fast paced dance style. The way Hip Hop is danced is very dependant on the music played at the time. Hip Hop music was originally created by mixing two tapes from other dance styles. The definition of Hip Hop is ‘a style of popular music of US black and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing’. Hip Hop is usually targeted at a young audience as it is normally a very energetic dance style accompanied with modern-ish music.
